kingmaker.
it is a revenge the devil sometimes takes upon the virtuous, that he entraps them by
the force of the very passion they have suppressed and think themselves superior to.

→ Hisoka was born on March 3rd, 1987 in Akita, Japan, his mother's hometown. Though his parents, Seisui Okada and Ryuchi Watanabe had met nearly three years before, they were unmarried when their son was born--though the pregnancy was not unplanned. A well-known and influential family, the Watanabes discouraged and eventually forbid completely any kind of union between their son and Seisui, the daughter of a well-loved but poor farmer. After Hisoka was born, the two were finally married.

→ An unlikely child, Hisoka was Seisui's fourth pregnancy. Each one before had resulted in a miscarriage, including the still birth of an almost eight month old girl that the couple named Aika. The couple never really got over the loss of this child, and Hisoka grew up with the ghost of his unborn sister in the rooms of his home like an invisible elephant.

→ His childhood was otherwise uneventful. No major triumphs, no major defeats. Hisoka was a watcher, his reticent nature making it easy for him to slide under the radar. He had friends, but none which he latched onto with a vicelike grip. His family was a close-knit one, and he preferred to spend his time with them rather than his peers.

→ When Hisoka was eight, his father was killed in a car crash overseas, where he had been scheduled to attend a business meeting for the family company, Nomura Holdings. Both Seisui and Hisoka were crushed, of course, and the rest of the family was devastated. What was worse, Ryuchi's family blamed his wife; due to a bad case of pneumonia, which she was prone to, Ryuchi had rescheduled the meeting, moving the date back almost a month. If he hadn't, they reasoned, he would still be alive.

→ Hisoka never blamed his mother for his father's death. He did, however, blame her for her reaction. Though he knew that his mother had been weak her entire life (a counterbalance for her beauty, his father often said), weakness of spirit was not something he expected from her. She never recovered from her husband's death, and became sicker and sicker as time progressed. When Hisoka was fourteen, she died. This time, he was expecting it, and the grieving period was much shorter.

→ Ryuchi had two brothers, both older than himself. As the baby of the family, he was the most loved, though his eldest brother was the most successful. Kenichi, the oldest of the three boys, became the CEO and President of Nomura Holdings when he was only thirty two, and he never married nor did he have any children. Daisuke, the middle child, wanted nothing to do with the family business and instead concentrated on his own family, having four children in a house just outside of Tokyo.

→ As such, Hisoka was put under his uncle Kenichi’s care and made his protégé, so to speak. He attended Hitotsubashi University for his undergraduate studies in business, and after graduating at the top of his class, began to work as his uncle's assistant.

→ Hisoka's position as "assistant" covers everything from making copies to running to Starbucks to making sure his uncle's associates are comfortable during their various negotiations and stays in Tokyo. Comfortable, Hisoka has discovered, is a very unspecific term. He’s also been saddled with the gift of making some of his uncle’s clients and partners uncomfortable. Rumors have it in the business world that Hisoka is quite the deadly viper, though carefully tagged and collared.

→ But Hisoka doesn't really like his uncle, much. Not at all, actually. Allowing himself to be exploited is just not in his blood.

→ Hisoka is too smart for open rebellion. His uncle is an intelligent and rather ruthless man, as can be attested to by the many yakuza networks he's dealt with under the table and the temperamental way in which he used to handle Hisoka before he started to become frightened of him. So, instead of putting himself into a position that would be unfavorable, Hisoka has worked as a bartender at Bodlies Host Club as a host for a little over two years. His uncle does not know. It's amazing how much power one can have over people when one knows just what they get up to on their off days.

→ Working with male escorts does not really bother him. His position in the host club makes him neither obligated to a customer nor worried about his reputation. Hisoka knows how to make people feel good--human emotions are easy to understand when someone else is experiencing them, and people are simple to a fault--and his confident, cool manner has gained him a great deal of respect, both at his weekend second job and in the business world.

→ Not that he cares.

→ One day, Hisoka plans on usurping his uncle’s position at Nomura holdings—or perhaps installing someone else of his choosing. He rather likes playing god behind the scenes.

→ His uncle may or may not be alive when he does this.
